Wow, the whole house KT, nice.  What color temperature did you go with?  http://www.seesmartled.com/kb/choosing_color_temperature/

2700k, but my wife wanted to try a pack of whiter ones in our living room. They're not bad.

We bought a single 5700k. We thought it would make it easier to see in the office.  After a couple of months, it was making me tense. I felt like I was in Walmart.  It has now been relegated to garage illumination where it is doing a fine job.

Tried a 5K bulb in a single indoor lamp today and wife said it was fine, but I really suspect she'll waffle out, next batch maybe will half-and-half, see how it goes, ease into it.  5K does feel a bit institutional.

It takes some getting used to. It's weird how 5k can change an entire room.

The hundred watt equivalents are mostly in the 10-12 range, but you can get 40 and 60 equivs in the 4-5 range online.

So, our cfls are starting to go bang. I'm gonna replace them with leds. Would you guys suggest the 2700k over the 5000k?

My opinion the 5000 is too bright/blue-white, as MJ says "institutional".  Long term it got to be annoying. So yeah, I'd recommend the 2700

Yeah, warb, I don't have a fully formed opinion on this yet, we only have one or two 2700k's and the rest 5000k.  I have more 2700k's coming, I do think the 5000k is kind of stark, but I haven't replaced all our bulbs yet, so I don't really know for sure.  Either way I figure we'll be able to use both until we figure it out, the non-preferred just ends up in utility spaces rather than true living areas.  Home depot has a 2700k 60w equivalent 2-pk for like 4.97 right now, you can order from the backorder online or go to a Home Depot in May for that deal.  I think LED's are a huge win now that the price has finally come down.

Yeah, I think they're a decent deal now too. At first they were like $12/bulb, which is fucking retarded. At Cfl prices, it's a no brainer. I think we'll go with the 2700s. You can get em in bulk on eBay for around a couple bucks per bulb, a little more for Cree or ge.

As for the thread topic, I don't have a 30watt Istick, but this 50watt is damn near perfect. I'm really liking it.

The bright white ones make me twitchy....moved them to non living areas... My son and son in law went full blown on leds which makes since because they have children. We're about 50/50...for me the big thing is not dragging the ladder out to change ceiling bulbs. After it was mentioned I looked at Home Depot and the 60 watt Phillips are $2.50 each..Pretty darn good  but I've been waiting to replace the remaining bulbs as they die out.
On a rational basis it makes no financial scene to burn an incandescent,,even if they are free.
Old habits die hard, even when they're costly.
The big thing for me was a lesson that the government isn't always wrong...When the incandescent ban was started I was pretty pissed...As it turned out It was the right thing to do. Now at this time it's the economical thing to do.....
Not related but Solar energy is expected to make the cost effective leap also.http://www.businessinsider.com/solar-energy-is-on-the-verge-of-a-global-boom-2015-4

A Review of the IStick 30w

This doesnt make sense to me, if you want a more powerful device then why buy a 50watt and have a whine about how it should be more powerful. A review should be of the product not what you would like it to be or what you think it should be. This would be a great review if I was you but I cant really see it helping anyone.
